Qualcomm Launches iSIM Technology

Qualcomm lauches iSIM (integrated SIM) technology in collaboration with Vodafone and Thales.

This case study is about Qualcomm's latest initiative, iSIM technology.

Qualcomm is launching a new mobile technology. The company calls it an “integrated SIM”, which means that the SIM card will be integrated with the phone.

The Qualcomm iSIM technology will help improve security by making it more difficult for hackers to access your personal data and remotely wipe your device.

The iSIM, which compiles with GSMA specifications, embeds SIM functionally into the device's main processor, allowing for greater system integration, higher performance and increased memory capacity.

Qualcomm launched this innovative product in collaboration with Vodafone and Thales. Qualcomm launched this revolutionary product at Mobile World Congress 2018 event in Barcelona, Spain earlier this year.

"Some of the areas that will benefit most from iSIM technology include smartphone, mobile PCs, VR/XR headsets, and industrial IOT. By engineering the iSIM technology into the SOC, we are able to create additional support for OEMs in our Snapdragon platform Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President and Present, Europe/MEA, Qua;commEurope" said in a statement.

Qualcomm has noted that there are many benefits to having an integrated SIM including reduced cost for device manufacturers, smaller form factor and better customer experience. They also note how this new type of technology will reduce problems that customers have faced with phone number compatibility across different networks.

Qualcomm has also collaborated with other companies on this project by manufacturing prototypes and getting feedback from potential customers on what they want in their.
